With the holiday season fast approaching, we want to share new ways that individuals like you can support our work to educate girls and end harmful practices in rural Kenya. As you consider your gift-giving plans this year end, we invite you to check out the ideas below to see how your creativity, generosity, and influence can make a transformational difference in the lives of our students and families.
1. Join Your Local Turkey Trot
Whether you run, jog, or walk, signing up for your local Turkey Trot is a great way to work up an appetite on Thanksgiving and raise much-needed funds for Kakenya’s Dream! Coordinate your own race with friends or sign up for an organized race and ask friends and family to make a donation through a personalized campaign on our CauseVox fundraising page. If you are really up for a challenge, you can run a mile for every dollar raised over a designated time frame.
2. Host a Holiday Cookie or Ugly Sweater Contest
Entering the holiday season means that it’s time to bring out your ugly holiday sweaters and bake holiday treats. These fun traditions can also be easy ways to raise money for Kakenya’s Dream. One way to do this is to host an “Ugly Holiday Sweater Day” at the office! Employees who make a minimum donation can wear their finest ugly Christmas sweater to work. For those with a sweet tooth, host a holiday cookie contest and ask friends, family, and coworkers, to make a donation to participate, or hold a bake sale and donate the proceeds.
3. Donate Your Special Occasion or Holiday Gifts
Is your birthday coming up? Or another special occasion like a wedding, anniversary, or shower? Have friends and family started asking you what you want for the holidays? In lieu of gifts, ask for them to donate to Kakenya’s Dream on your behalf! To get started, you can either set up a personalized campaign on our CauseVox fundraising page to collect donations or have loved ones check the “Give in honor/memory” option on our online donation form for your big day. Whenever someone makes a gift in your honor through CauseVox or our website, you’ll be notified with an email so you can celebrate the life-changing impact you and your loved ones are making together.
4. Host a Game Night
Did you know you can make a difference by sitting on your couch and playing your favorite game? Trivia, charades, or even video games. Simply host a competition with your friends, ask them to pay a fee to participate, and then donate the proceeds to Kakenya’s Dream. This is an easy way to have fun while supporting our mission!
5. Ask Your Company to Match a Holiday Gift
If your company has a corporate matching program, add Kakenya’s Dream to double your impact and support for girls’ education in celebration of the holidays. Click here to check if your employer has an established program. If they don’t, reach out to your HR department to request one!
