Tia McNair
Kuza Circle Member since 2017
Tia McNair is a longtime Kakenya’s Dream donor who has been part of our Kuza Circle since 2017 and previously served on our board of directors. Her connection to Kakenya’s Dream grew from a deep conviction about the potential of education to transform not only individuals, but also whole communities and generations.
What inspired you to become involved in the area of girls’ empowerment and education?
From a very early age, I saw the sacrifices my parents and my aunts and uncles made to send my sister and I and our cousins to school. My grandfather could barely read and write, but because of education, his grandchildren are self-sufficient and successful in their fields.
As an advocate for equity and justice, I understand the uneven circumstances in this world that can influence a person’s life trajectory. I believe that education is part of the solution and no one should be denied an education.
Why did you first give to our organization and join the Kuza Circle?
I first gave to Kakenya’s Dream because I believe everyone should have access to a high-quality education, regardless of their circumstances. Education is not only a positive for the person receiving it, but also for the family and for generations to come. It is a multi-generational change solution.
What advice would you give to others who are looking for ways to join this cause?
Don’t hesitate to join the cause. Every donation matters and has an impact. Don’t focus on what you can give, but why you give. Every time I read the newsletter and see the success of the girls and the leadership team, I smile knowing that I am blessed to be part of something bigger. I am reminded every day why it is important to care for others—it changes their lives and your life.
