Bridging the gap from education to employment.
Across rural Kenya, poverty is pervasive, and young adult unemployment rates soar as high as 67%. Even for individuals with extensive education, securing jobs and achieving economic empowerment remains a significant challenge.
Rural communities face limited job opportunities, as most employment is concentrated in urban areas. Young women are disproportionately affected by societal norms, patriarchal biases, and barriers like limited access to career guidance, financial resources, and practical experience.
OUR APPROACH
At Kakenya’s Dream, we help young women transition from school to meaningful employment through programs that address these unique challenges. We equip them with the skills, networks, and support they need to succeed in a competitive job market, fostering independence and breaking cycles of dependency.
Practical Experience
Internships and volunteer placements at local businesses for hands-on experience.
Job Readiness
Workshops on resume building, interview preparation, computer training, and workplace etiquette.
Financial Literacy
Essential money management skills for financial independence.
Entrepreneurship Training
Courses in business planning, market analysis, and operational management for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Soft Skills Development
Training in leadership, communication, self-advocacy, time management, problem-solving, and civic engagement.
Networking & Career Guidance
One-on-one mentorship and connections with local employers to help women identify and pursue their professional goals.
Giving Back
Participants volunteer with local schools, businesses, and even Kakenya’s Dream, gaining hands-on experience while mentoring younger girls in our programs. This dual approach builds confidence, fosters leadership, and strengthens our communities through a culture of service.
Holistic Support from Childhood to Adulthood
Most of the girls in our programs are first-generation high school and college graduates. Their parents, many of whom are subsistence farmers with limited education and exposure to the formal economy, often lack the experience to guide their daughters through workforce placement. That’s where we step in. By offering a continuum of support, from career counseling to professional development workshops and job placements, we ensure that young women are prepared to navigate early adulthood and secure their first jobs.
Kakenya’s Dream envisions a future where young women are economically empowered, breaking the cycle of poverty and contributing to the development of their communities, nations, and the world at large.
