At Kakenya’s Dream, we are transforming the narrative that limits girls in Maasai communities solely to roles as mothers and brides. We believe that when girls are educated and empowered, they gain the agency to shape their own futures and pursue the careers and lives they envision for themselves.
One of the most impactful ways you can support this mission is by fundraising for Kakenya’s Dream. As an ambassador, you’ll help advance gender equality and directly uplift the lives of girls who need it most. Getting started takes only five minutes—just set up your personalized fundraising page and share it with your community. If you are ready to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable girls in rural Kenya, here are a few ways you can take action today:

1. Host a virtual game night
Invite friends and family to a fun and interactive game night to support Kakenya’s Dream. You can use a free online game like Kahoot to ask questions on female genital mutilation (FGM), girls’ education, and gender-based violence to educate participants on these critical issues. To make it even more exciting, offer prizes to the winners. This is a fantastic way to engage people, spread awareness, and raise funds for an important cause.
2. Create a social media challenge
Start a social media trend focused on women’s empowerment and supporting girls’ rights. Engage your friends with hashtags like #empoweragirlchallenge and ask them to post a video or photo using the hashtag and showing what they are doing to empower a girl in their community. For each post, participants can donate to Kakenya’s Dream or tag their contacts to continue the challenge, creating a chain of advocacy to further gender equality in their communities and globally.
3. Host a movie night
Choose a powerful documentary or film that showcases the challenges faced by women and girls in Kenya in fighting for gender equality and empowerment. Our founder and president, Dr. Kakenya Ntaiya, is a renowned speaker and has given several TED talks. Screen her talks along with your main feature! After the screening, have an engaging discussion to reflect on the issues raised and provide a donation link to your fundraising page to let attendees know how they can make a difference. Make sure to get the word out to friends and family via social media, or personal invites.
4. Set up a birthday fundraiser
Is your birthday coming up soon? Why not do something meaningful this year by setting up a fundraiser to uplift girls in rural Kenya? This is a powerful and impactful way to give back and support Kakenya’s Dream. You never know how many people you can reach that would be willing to contribute to our mission.
5. Host a dinner party
One great way to spread the word about Kakenya’s Dream and show appreciation for Kenyan culture is to host a Kenya-themed dinner party! Put together a menu of well-known Kenyan dishes like chapatis, sukuma-wiki (collard greens), nyama choma (grilled meat), and kachumbari (tomato and onion salad). Host a potluck or find a caterer that specializes in Kenyan delicacies and enjoy digging into delicious food as you support girls’ empowerment for generations to come.
6. Organize a walkathon
As we get into spring and the weather warms up, people are excited to enjoy more time outdoors. A walkathon is a great way to bring people together and share about our mission. This can be as simple as getting your friends together for a 30-minute jaunt around your neighborhood. For some serious mileage, reach out to your local park to set up an official route, assemble a leadership team, select a date, time, and location, and get the word out. Ask participants to make a donation to Kakenya’s Dream to join and start walking!
7. Design your own merchandise
Take on a creative challenge and design your own merchandise to support our causes. This could be anything from T-shirts to stickers or hats. Promote your work via social media or ask friends to wear your designs. Donate the proceeds to us and let your customers know that each purchase is bringing us a step closer to a more gender-equitable world.
These are just a few ways for you to contribute to our mission of supporting girls and young women in rural Kenya.
