Bency
Grade 7
Growing up in Kapsinedet in a family of 12, Bency is a social butterfly. When she first came to Kakenya’s Dream, she remembers “making lots of new friends. I was just talking and talking. Someone even told me I’m very talkative. I was like, ‘really?’ I was happy because I was joining a new school. I saw the big buildings and I thought – wow – this school is different from all the other schools I’ve seen.”
Bency learned about Kakenya’s Dream from her neighbor. She remembers that she received her admission letter on a Tuesday, and “I was so happy, I jumped like a Maasai!”
Since joining KCE II, Bency has seen her academic performance improve. “When I was in my former school, the teachers were too few and I didn’t have time to read. I was scoring Ds and Cs, but now I’m earning Bs!” She remembers one of the main challenges she faced in the past was limited time to study due to household chores. “In the morning before school, I had to mop the house and wash the dishes, so I was always late to school. Kakenya’s Dream has helped me because it’s a boarding school and I don’t have all the chores I would do at home, so I can focus on my studies.”
Bency enjoys math and English class and writing short stories. She says, “education is important to me because education lasts forever. If I study now, I will be comfortable in the future.”
