Kakenya’s Dream is proud to celebrate World Children’s Day!
It’s a time to reflect on our progress and recommit to the work needed to uphold every child’s rights. This universal celebration promotes international togetherness, raises awareness among children everywhere, and strives to improve their welfare.
At Kakenya’s Dream, our mission is to invest in girls and young women from rural communities as agents of change through education, health, and skills development. We believe every child deserves a safe, healthy, and supportive environment where they can thrive.
Earlier this year, we took a significant step toward addressing healthcare disparities in rural communities by opening the Kakenya Health and Wellness Center. Among its many services are youth-friendly primary and preventive care, sexual and reproductive health services, and mental health support.
In addition to healthcare, we provide girls with access to quality education, training to help them develop leadership, life, and career skills, and we work with their communities to end harmful practices like child marriage, foster gender equality, and inspire lasting social change. These holistic initiatives ensure that every girl in our programs has access to the resources she needs to succeed in all aspects of life.
As we celebrate World Children’s Day, we are reminded of the ongoing work required to ensure every child has the opportunity to thrive. At Kakenya’s Dream, we remain committed to breaking down barriers to education, healthcare, and employment, especially for girls and young women in underserved communities. But this work is not something we can do alone. We must work together in order to build a future where every child, everywhere, grows up safe, healthy, and empowered.
An essential part of this work is listening to children. By honoring their right to self-expression, we gain valuable insight into their ideas for a better world and ensure their priorities shape our actions. To that end, we asked our students to share their advice, hopes, and dreams for the future. See what they had to say below! Their answers inspire us to continue fighting for a brighter, more equitable tomorrow.
