Last week, our community came together to celebrate the third graduating class in our higher education scholarship program. This year’s celebration honored 24 young women, many of whom are the first women in their families to go to college.
This cohort raises the total number of college graduates Kakenya’s Dream has supported to 113, and reflects the powerful ripple effects that education creates across generations. These scholars, once facing enormous odds, now stand as role models in their families and communities, demonstrating what becomes possible when girls are supported to pursue their dreams.
The ceremony was attended by families, local leaders, and the Kakenya’s Dream team, creating a warm and uplifting moment of recognition. We were honored to welcome two distinguished guests: Mr. Japhet Turgut, Director of Youth Affairs for Narok County, and Ms. Mercy Pion, Member of the Narok County Public Service Board. Mr. Turgut encouraged graduates to tap into government funding opportunities to advance their careers and entrepreneurial goals. Ms. Pion reminded them that their character and determination will carry them farther than any obstacle standing in their way.
As an organization, days like this remind us why our work continues to evolve. Under our new five-year strategic plan, Kakenya’s Dream is deepening our commitment not only to ensuring girls and young women access education, but also to supporting their transition into meaningful employment. This expanded focus is part of the holistic continuum of support we are building—one that accompanies girls from childhood through adolescence and into young adulthood.
By strengthening life skills, health and wellbeing, career readiness, mentorship, and pathways to economic opportunity, we are building the foundation for girls’ and women’s long-term success. Our goal is to ensure that every girl has the support she needs to thrive in all areas of life.
What was witnessed today was far more than a ceremony. It was the rise of a generation committed to rewriting their future and uplifting their communities. Each graduate carries a spark—one that will light paths, open doors, and inspire others who dare to dream.
