The streets of Ildolisho Centre were filled with song and celebration as our high school students at KCE II marched through neighboring villages to honor a remarkable academic milestone.
Not long ago, deeply rooted social norms held that a girl’s only place in society was at home, not in a classroom. Today, those same streets echoed with pride as the girls achieved exceptional KCSE national exam results, including a mean score of 7.0 and a 77% transition rate to universities across Kenya. In the communities we serve, fewer than 15% of women attend college, making this achievement especially powerful.
As the procession made its way through the villages, parents, teachers, and community members poured into the streets to join the celebration. Their presence spoke volumes of trust built, of beliefs changed, and of growing confidence in the importance of educating girls.
The celebration became a shared victory, uniting the school and the community in a moment of collective pride and hope. The success of our students is not only measured in grades and university placements, but in the partnerships built with families and the wider community, the inspiration ignited in younger generations, and the promise of communities now supporting girls to break away from harmful traditions in order to learn and lead.
This exciting milestone is one step in a longer journey for these girls. Through our economic empowerment programs, Kakenya’s Dream will continue supporting them through higher education and into meaningful work and young adulthood. From academic and financial aid to career guidance and job skills training, our holistic continuum of support is equipping young women not only to graduate but to lead successful, independent futures and transform their communities.
